Final Evaluation
At the start of the module, we were asked to make a mind map of the inspiration sources we could use to inform our designs. Our design constraint was that the design be based around the theme "Nottingham". My final project focused on one aspect of Nottingham: Birds, nature, and The Attenborough Nature Reserve. My aim was to encourage home owners (and apartment owners) to interact with the nature Nottingham has to offer. My solution was a Birdhouse/Bird feeder that could be mounted in the backyard tree, wall, or window; all very reasonably available places suburban/urban people could access. I used inspiration from online, such as a Product Design website called Core77. As well as photographs I had taken when visiting areas in Nottingham (Like the Attenborough Nature Reserve). When it came to building a model of my Birdhouse design i decided to use mainly cardboard and Kraft paper, as they were accessible and flexible to work with. I believe my final model ended up as a success because it consistently represented my ideas of what I intended it to look like. However, there are things i would have improved such as its structural integrity. Overall, I feel that I learned a lot in terms of design practice from this experience as it allowed me to inform my design process with well-cited research and work under constraints. I also feel that I developed personally as the experience taught me to work hard and punctually to reach a desirable outcome on a strict deadline.
